Not many people think of Missouri when they think of a place to go on vacation. But surprisingly Missouri has several destinations that are family-oriented and won’t break the bank.

Nowadays it’s a little quieter, but it still offers a wonderful array of things to do. You can stay at the historic Elms Resort and Spa, where famous people like Harry S. Truman and Al Capone have stayed. You can rent bikes and ride around town, maybe stopping for a bite at the historic Ray’s Diner, a restaurant that just celebrated its seventy-fifth year in business! You could also go out to Watkins Mill State Park and take a dip in the lake. Amusement parks like Worlds of Fun and Oceans of Fun are less than thirty minutes away, and the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art is less than an hour away in Kansas City. There are also many historic sites scattered around the area, including the Vaile Mansion in Independence.
