Landing in any of the major Indian cities is an opportunity to practice patience, a skill that will come in handy to visitors making their way through one of the most populated countries.
To avoid frustration mixed with jet lag it’s best to have organized a pick-up from the airport to pre-arranged accommodation before touching down. Most reputable hotels offer a pick-up service and for those on a cheaper budget don’t be surprised if the taxi (and I use the word taxi loosely) is a little rough around the edges.
A good map of the city will come in handy and once again it’s best to get one before leaving home. There are maps available in India but sometimes they are not as detailed as one would like. The book shops in the major Indian cities often have good maps along with a vast array of cheap books on everything you ever wanted to read.
